Diamond Pinwheel Vest

To fit Chest size 34-36 inches. (Finished measurement: 39 inches.)

Materials:

worsted weight yarn (about 12 oz.), knitting needles, size 10 and 7.

Diamond Pinwheel Pattern:

Row 1: * k6, (p1, k1) twice, p6, rep from *.
Row 2 (and all wrong side rows): knit all knit sts, and purl all purl sts.
Row 3: * k5, (p1, k1) three times; purl 5, rep from *.
Row 5: * k4, (p1, k1) four times; purl 4, rep from *.
Row 7: * k3, (p1, k1) five times; p3, rep from *.
Row 9: * k2, (p1, k1) twice, p2, k2, (p1, k1) twice; p2, rep from *.
Row 11: * k1, (p1, k1) twice; p3, k3, (p1, k1) twice; p1, rep from *.
Row 13: * (p1, k1) twice; p4, k4, (p1, k1) twice, rep from *.
Row 15: * k1, p1, k1, p5, k5, p1, k1, p1, rep from *.
Row 17: * p1, k1, p6, k6, p1, k1, rep from *.
Row 19: * k1, p1, k6, p6, k1, p1, rep from *.
Row 21: * p1, k1, p1, k5, p5, k1, p1, k1, rep from *.
Row 23: * (k1, p1) twice; k4, p4, (k1, p1) twice; rep from *.
Row 25: * p1, (k1, p1) twice; k3, p3, (k1, p1) twice; k1, rep from *.
Row 27: * p2, (k1, p1) twice; k2, p2, (k1, p1) twice; k2, rep from *.
Row 29: * p3, (k1, p1) 5 times; k3, rep from *.
Row 31: * p4, (k1, p1) 4 times; k4, rep from *.
Row 33: * p5, (k1, p1) 3 times; k5, rep from *.
Row 35: * p6, (k1, p1) twice; k6, rep from *.
Repeat rows 1-36 for pattern.

 

Back: With size 10 needles, cast on 80 sts. Work 6 rows stockinette stitch. Begin seeded rib as follows:
Row 1: k1, p1 across.
Row 2: purl.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 once more.
Begin Diamond Pinwheel pattern, and work even until piece measures 22 inches. Bind off.

Front: Work same as back until piece measures 19 inches. Bind off center 18 sts for neck. Working one side at a time, dec 1 st at neck edge every row 4 times, then work even until it measures 22 inches from the bottom. Bind off.

Neckband: Sew one shoulder seam, then pick up 72 sts around neck with smaller needles.
Row 1: k1, p1 across.
Row 2: knit
Repeat these two rows twice more. Purl next row and coninue in stockinette stitch for 4 more rows. Bind off.

Sew other shoulder seam and neckband.

Armbands: Measure down 9 inches on each front and back from shoulder and place a marker. With smaller needles, pick up 68 sts between markers for each armband. Work same as for neckband.

Sew side seams and ends of armbands together.
